Manga Research Laboratory / .hack//Bullet

So this isn't actually an anime, but a web novel. However, there was no where else to put it and it related to an anime i guess.

Seems like an interesting plot, just found it today and feel like it's set around a very interesting time during .hack//Root and GU.

Gaming Center / Guilty Dragon: The Sin and the Eight Curses

Cyber Corporation's next big project for the .hack// Universe. Finally after .hack//Versus and .hack//TheMovie have been released and put out, it looks like they are looking to do a mobile game for both the Android and iPhone systems.

While not a whole lot of information has been put out, it looks like it may or may not follow the dot hack universe, but from the screens and the copyright of the dot hack conglomerate, i can only hope that i'll have a new dot hack entertainment.

Now if only Yuki would visit the forums every now and then to discuss with me >_>

Gaming Center / Games you are looking forward to?
« on: August 12, 2012, 12:41:33 PM »
So there are actually numerous games coming out in the near future, or 2013. But what games are you looking forward to? Any pre-orders you are just dying to look forward to? Discuss em and list em :D

My list:

Borderlands 2 - September 18th

Pre-ordered for Xbox, the first one was really a fun play through with all my friends, and the replayability with different characters gives me definitely what my money wants. This time around they have added thousands upon thousands of new gun makes, and tons of new features. Looking forward to it.

Torchlight 2

From some of the makers from the old Blizzard North, this game is looking to expand on the already amazing gameplay they brought upon with Torchlight 1. Looking to bust through into what was already a super popular themed Diablo, Torchlight brought a lot of features that Diablo missed out on, and now that Activision has bombed Blizzard's Diablo 3, Torchlight 2 is looking to jump into the gigantic void that Diablo 3 greatly swung and missed by.

Castle Story

Like minecraft? Like RTS games? This game is looking for a lot of potential, with multiplayer capabilities of coop and pvp, it offers a lot of unique gameplay that i'm really looking forward to. They have started up on Kickstarter and within only a few weeks have gone above 500% of what they originally asked for. The Prototype alpha will be released in only a couple of weeks, and I'm eagerly awaiting to play it.

Path of Exile

Another action diablo-esque style play. This one offers millions upon millions of character skill tree customizability though, and i think offers a new fresh feature to the action style rpg genre.

Anime Research Laboratory / Fall Anime Lineup 2012

Not a whole lot of impressive animes i'm really looking forward to besides Bakuman S3.

Maybe promise in Ixion Saga or Robotics:notes, but this fall seems kind of bland T_T;;

Anime Research Laboratory / Sword Art Online Anime - Reviewing
« on: July 20, 2012, 03:19:46 AM »
**Notes** - While there are only 2 episodes out currently, I felt like this was enough basis to go off of for first impressions and overall to work with for a review.  This is the first anime since Bakuman started/ended that I have really been excited for in a long time, so i wanted to share here.

Sword Art Online

Rating: 9.5/10
Review by: Azure Kite
Reviewed on: 7/19/2012

Anime Info:

Directed by: Tomohiko Ito
Music by: Yuki Kajiura
Studio: A-1 Pictures
Approx Episodes: ~25

Anime Summary Info:

Sword Art Online or SAO, is a new online world utilizing the latest Nerv Headgear, a headset that utilizes Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR), to create a full breathe-taking world that captures the users into a very realistic Fantasy Adventure MMORPG. Only a thousand were selected for the Beta Testing, and after, only Ten Thousand copies were released into the public on opening day. This was supposed to be the step into the future for video games, merging reality and virtualization together. However, shortly after users found that they could not log out, and not just log out, but the Nerv Headgear makes it so that your nervous system in game and out of game are separated so that you are not able to simply just take off the head gear. What's more, is that the game creator has challenged them to fight for their lives, to reach the 100th floor of the game, and not just reach it, but to do so without dying. Dying in game now means your death outside as well, and removing of the headset offline by anyone means the death of you as well. Now users must either work together, or figure out how to move up the floors without dying. The anime follows the main character Kirito, a SAO beta player, as he attempts to conquer the tower, as well as gaining relationships with others along the way.

Story Concept Review:

Obviously being an ex-MMO player, as well as an avid .hack// fan, I was very excited for this anime to come out. But it wasn't really just that reason, and others seemed to follow this feeling as well, SAO is actually a really refreshing anime that many have looked forward to in an anime in a while. This is the anime I have been looking for, for quite some time. A main character who starts out pretty strong, looking to conquer an end boss, gathering unique party members along the way and forging relationships. Seems like your typical shonen anime, but with all the elements, this one reminds me of the fresh feelings i had when i first started watching anime. I'm so curious to see what "powers" the story will develop since there are magics within the game, so far they haven't really been over-powering, in fact they lineup more like the feeling of a game that one might play today. The adventuring feels like i'm walking through a new game, all while adding depth to the story and how it works. The mechanics may be very quick and brief, but the movement it gives towards the story is very fun feeling.

A very important aspect to any anime, and SAO's is good, very good. Yuki Kajiura was a perfect pick for this anime i think, with experience in creating music for Xenosaga, and .hack// series i think it honestly just felt natural. The music for both Xenosaga AND .hack was extroardinary, and i think added great depth to both anime and game. The music coordinates with both feeling of the SAO world, as well as the emotion of the characters adding much feeling and drama when needed.

Character design is really well done from the bit that I have watched, you know just enough about the character that you always want to know more, who is this person, what can they do, what will they do in the future, etc, letting you the viewer know just enough of what you need to know. Each character holds somewhat of a mystery within them as they are MMO created characters, so you don't really know their offline persona and what they know or are capable of. This mystery makes the characters interesting, and something you want to get to know. The personas fit that of those you would honestly meet online as well (and yes, they differ from offline).
End Thoughts:

While at first i was kind of skeptical that this would be a .hack remake, i was pleasantly surprised that it was a completely different aspect, and adds in more action packed sequences, and avoids all the long dialogue drama that .hack brought. SAO is very refreshing, and a breathe of fresh air, an anime that honestly i hope turns into a video game, i haven't found myself so interested in an anime since Bakuman, and eagerly await each week while avoiding reading the original novel. I think this anime has a lot of potential to shine, and I think with a lot of stale main stream animes right now that it could possibly catch on, but like Bakuman i hope that it ends (even if it's short) in a fashionable manner. All in all i really like SAO and give it a solid 9.5 / 10.

Gaming Center / Borderlands 2 - The "Badass - System"
« on: July 17, 2012, 01:26:18 AM »
Original Article: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-13-borderlands-2-badass-system-has-infinite-levels-of-progression

So you know when you buy a game, beat it... Get bored and never play it again? The makers of Borderlands 2 are trying to overcome that issue by creating a badass system, simply put, there is no final level, and the badass system is supposed to be an evolving system that will let you play forever.

Now i'm not sure how far into the future that will get "old and boring", but these are the games i used to LIVE for. As a completionist, i always have to do everything in a game it seems. So feel my wrath when there is no end :O.

So looking forward to this game. Anyone else?

Anime Research Laboratory / Summer Anime Lineup 2012
« on: June 19, 2012, 09:51:48 PM »
So starting around July, the summer anime lineup will kickoff, and was wondering what everyone was looking forward to. What you aren't looking forward to, etc.

http://atxpieces.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/summer-anime-v2-jun18.jpg <--- List

Me personally, can't wait for Sword Art Online, and might check out Hagure Yuusha no Estetica.

Classy Pokemon Theme Song... Been listening for so long T____T just so smooth and relaxing, but so invigorating and nostalgic.

So not sure if any of you follow FreddieWong on youtube (guy makes amazingly awesome videos). But he's started a short series online called VGHS, pretty nerdy, but pretty entertaining too. Thought i'd share :3

Comes out once a week.

So... What do, Goldeneye's Golden Gun, Insta-Gib, and Diablo 3's Inferno Champions all have in common? Oh yeah... Instant death >_>;;

So while i'm pretty over Diablo 3 at the moment until they fix a lot of qualms i have about the game. I'm not sure if any of you have heard of Torchlight, it's essentially like Diablo 2 in the sense of play style and UI setup, but more of a likeable enjoyable game with more features, options, and fun involved. Plus? It's got offline LAN capabilities, as well as online multiplayer :O

The beta for Torchlight 2 is underway, and pre-orders are available on Steam at the moment for only $20.00 (pretty dang good for a new game).  http://store.steampowered.com/app/200710

Anime Research Laboratory / Sword Art Online - July 2012
« on: May 30, 2012, 12:20:26 AM »
So i'm not sure how many look far forward for animes... But this is one i've been keeping my eye on since fall 2011. And have been debating reading in the manga / light novel.

Basically, it seems relatively close to .hack// but with quite a different plot twist, in that users who die in game, die in real life as well. Kind of reminds me more of a RealPG manga style.

Anyways, discuss? :O

Found this on youtube, as I follow her channel. This video was really good :3 Good musicz, and good direction.

If you could swap realities for say a day, a month, a year, or even forever. What anime universe would you swap into, Whom would you swap into, and what would you do in said universe?

I think this is a very interesting question, as we all have our FAVORITE animes, but doesn't neccesarily mean that you'd think that universe is most interesting. Try to be unique about it, or try and give an interesting perspective, or just have fun.

I would most likely really want to enter the universe of either .Hack//Sign, or Pokemon. I believe they have a very unique and interesting world that would be very entertaining.

In the world of .hack//sign i would no doubt enter The World as a dot hacker, and forge my way into becoming a legend online. I would really like this universe, because having a HUD technology for a game i think would very much pique my curiosity as an IS major, as well as my inner nerd xD.

In the world of Pokemon, i would of course aim to be pokemon master :D! Sounds so cliche, but a journey across the world with animal friends >_>;; thats like every kids dream right? Bahaha, I think it would be a great experience no matter who you are at that point.

So lets hear your worlds.
