Red Data Girl: Initial Thoughts

Reconnaissance Report by: Alaska
Progress: Episode 1

red data girl promoAlright, so I just started watching Red Data Girl. It seems really cute. It’s about a young girl by the name of Izumiko Suzuhara who has a strange power – whenever she touches an electronic device, it breaks. Because of this, her guardian recommends that she attend a new school in Tokyo. Accompanying her is his son, Miyuki Sagara. Miyuki has been asked to watch over Izumiko during her stay at this new school.

There are a couple of things about this first episode that caught my eye when it came to the characters. Almost everyone in the entire episode freaks out about Izumiko cutting her bangs. It seems like she can’t do anything without someone’s permission. She also seems like a really timid girl. I don’t know whether to hug her or slap her and tell her to get a grip. Her powers are another thing that I’m confused about. I don’t know how to even explain what happened, but it really intrigued me so I definitely want to keep watching to find out what’s going on with her. Then there’s her guardian and his son. They seem like they’re hiding things from Izumiko and they know what’s actually going on with her.

Although the episode is a little slow in the beginning, it holds your interest when Izumiko’s power starts acting up and keeps your interest for the rest of the episode. The music is really light and matches the mood of the story so far. I also like the fluid feel of the animation, as it makes the anime more realistic. If the rest of the series is like the first episode, then I think this will be a good anime to watch.
