Version Reviewed: Playstation 2 This game follows straight through the first two movies, or books, whichever you prefer. You start off as Esildur, fighting off orcs. Then you progress to where you can play as Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli. Each of the three have their own specific strengths and weaknesses and you can upgrade your characters with new moves and weapons.

While this game would be best if you could play along side your buddy, the game still gives you the feeling you’re playing with others, at times. You often play along side the other characters in battle. The enemy listing is as follows: Orcs, Uruk-Hai, Ringwraiths, and a few other random creatues. While some enemies take strategy to defeat, most are easily beaten through hacking and slashing.

The game progresses nicely with actual movie footage blended in with CG animation in the cut-scenes. The game follows along almost exactly straight through both movies. While it does leave out some of the less exciting moments, it’s still a good game. This is an action game, not an RPG.

If you’re a LotR fan, and you haven’t picked this up yet, then shame on you. This is one of the few movie to video game scenarios where the game actually turns out good. This game will probably only be fun for a few runthroughs, but the game is definitely fun while it lasts.
