However, soon after that, Kaori and her friends are attacked by an Elite Special Forces squad operating from the United States Armed Forces Base. The Weiß Kreuz Series was very popular in Japan, and so this 2 episode OVA was produced to give the fans another taste of their four favouritebishounen. However, unlike most OVA produced for the sole sake of more profits, the Weiß Kreuz OVA manages to be rather entertaining.

The main problem with the Weiß Kreuz OVA is the same that befalls the vast majority of short anime: a lack of screen time. Because of this, the level of character development presented is well below the level of Weiß Kreuz. Furthermore, the tone and mood are rather bland compared to the TV Series. However, there is enough development to prevent this anime from becoming all style and no substance. The plot, while appearing to be very standard from the outset, actually was a rather pleasant surprise, with quite a few twists.

One thing that the length of the OVA was not able to hinder was the art and animation, which are several notches above the level displayed inWeiß Kreuz. The increased animation quality made for very fluid and enjoyable fight sequences and action scenes, correcting a very serious problem of the original Weiß Kreuz. Once again, the voice acting does not disappoint, and the vocal opening and ending songs are quite good.

Although it doesn’t have much of the power of the original TV Series, theWeiß Kreuz OVA is an entertaining way to kill an hour. However, due to the lack of character development or back story in the OVA, it is highly recommended that you watch the 24 episode series first in order to get the full story on the main characters. Fans of Weiß Kreuz should see this, but should also just treat it as a couple of bonus episodes, rather than a new story arc or addition to the series.
