Sakura Con 2017

Sakura-Con has come and gone once again, but this year was an extra-special occasion. 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the convention since its debut in 1997 as Baka-Con. Back then, it only consisted of a few hundred people bringing traded VHS fansub tapes and TVs into hotel rooms to watch anime and hang out, but it’s certainly come a long way from there.

Sakura-Con 2014 by Katie Cunico

Sakuracon has a lot going for it; it’s in the spring in Seattle, which even when it rains, as it did part of this year, is always nice and mild. It’s very suitable for any type of convention activity, whether it be lugging purchases around or costumes of any type. The neighborhood the convention center and surrounding hotels are in is a fantastic one – I’ve mentioned the Gameworks across the street before, and it remains a favorite after-con activity for many congoers, especially on Thursday night – and there’s no shortage of food or shopping or entertainment.

Aniplex Releasing Persona 3 THE MOVIE #1 Spring of Birth in May

Aniplex of America announced at their industry panel at Kawaii-Kon their plans to release Shin Megami Tensei: Persona3 THE MOVIE #1 Spring of Birth for sale in over 50 countries starting May 20th of this year. Spring of Birth premiered in Japanese theaters last November and is the first film in the Persona3 trilogy based on the highly popular RPG game series by ATLUS. Aniplex of America plans to release both the Collector’s and Standard Editions of the Import Blu-ray.
