Oni-Con 2011

Oni-Con 2011 was my first Oni-Con attendance. I arrived on the scene close to the end of events on Friday, October 28 to a very convenient parking place. That was the first thing I noticed about this convention, the little conveniences. Parking was simple and easy, as there was a parking garage beneath the convention center. Across the street from the convention venue was a local store, which made getting food during the convention easy and inexpensive.

Kumoricon 2011

Well, once again Kumoricon has come and gone, and once again the staff impressed. It was in Vancouver, WA this year, right across the river from Portland. For the first time, it filled two hotels, and it seems like the staff are really pulling it together and optimizing everything to make sure all attendees have the best time possible. I’m very pleased with the results.

A-Kon 22

Well, here we are again. Another year gone by and another A-Kon has come and gone. Let’s get right into it. The pre-reg line moved quickly for the amount of people that were there. However, if you had not managed to pre-register , you had quite the wait ahead of you. The on-site registration wait time ended up being about 60 minutes or so depending…..

New York Comic Con 2011: Nintendo’s Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva Event

This past weekend, at New York Comic Con, I got the wonderful opportunity to attend a special event run by Nintendo: a screening of Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, the first Professor Layton movie which will be released by Viz in the United States on November 8.

New York Comic Con 2011

New York Anime Festival. Or, New York Comic-Con (NYCC), depending on who you talk to. For the second year in a row, the two were the same convention. After New York Anime Festival had had three years to cement itself as the New York anime con, Reed Pop brought back NYCC from its hiatus in 2010 and combined the two conventions into one mega event, to varying results.

MechaCon VII: Cosplay Contest Footage

This past year, AnmeSecrets was able to attend the annual Cosplay Contest at MechaCon VII on Saturday afternoon, and I have got to say, this year’s performances really upped the game. Below are videos taken by LexiEvelyn of the skits portion of the afternoon.

MechaCon VII

MechaCon has just completed its seventh year in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Hilton Riverside, and I must say Convention Organizer, Jon Russo’s words about this year being Lucky Number Seven were totally spot on. In my six years of attending this convention, I have got to say this was probably the most fun I have ever had at any con in recent memory. However, as I say this, let me also preface this with this is the first convention I’ve attended where I have stayed at the convention hotel.

Otakon 2011

Being this was my first time at a con without someone else accompanying me, my attempts to sit down and really take in every single thing the con had to offer were kind of put to the wayside and it was more about taking in the con experience as a whole.

Anime Expo 2011

Last summer in Los Angeles was the 20th anniversary of Anime Expo – the #1 convention in North America. It was a 4-day bonanza of Japanese culture. I’ve attended various cons and events in Canada and Japan, including Anime North in Toronto and the famed Comiket in Tokyo, but AX2011 was my first event in the USA. AM² 2011

We arrived at the first AM² event ever with high hopes and even higher expectations. Heading toward the Anaheim Convention Center brought back a flood of memories. The first anime convention/event that I ever attended was here, and now that original event was elsewhere. But I was back and this time it was a new beginning.
