Because You Smile When I Sing is a collection of five short stories by Natsuki Takaya, the creator of Fruits Basket. More specifically, the collection contains four dramas-Because You Smile When I Sing (a light love story about two teenagers who are picked on for how they look), Ding Dong (about how a girl adjusts to living with her stepmother and her father’s death), Voice of Mine (about how two talented violinists overcome their classmates’ jealousy and their own lack of confidence in themselves), Double Flower (a tale of how a strange male seamstress finds love; it has a fair share of comedy too)- and one comedy-Dark Princess (a light-hearted parody of Snow White).

Flowers of Evil

Takao Kasuga is caught stealing Nanako Saeki’s gym clothes one day after school by Sawa Nakamura. Sawa demands Takao begin to obey her every command, or she reveals his deeds to Nanako. To seal the deal the two form a contract, and thus begins a very strange and awkward relationship.

Attack on Titan

Hundreds of years ago, the human race was nearly wiped out by ferocious giants known as titans, which are many stories high with seemingly no intelligence to speak of, and enjoy consuming live humans for fun. From the brinks of extinction, mankind erects a city with tall walls higher then any titan encountered. In the present, it has been over one hundred years since the last titan has been sighted, but one fateful day, a young boy Eren Yeager and his foster sister Mikasa Ackerman witness the return of the titans when a super titan appears from thin air and destroys the outer wall of the city. The destruction of the wall paves the way for the titans to invade the outer perimeter and force the humans to run to higher ground behind their next line of defense. All the while Eren and Mikasa witness their mother being eaten alive as they escape. On that day Eren vows to destroy every single titan and avenge mankind.

Arata: The Legend

Arata Hinohara is the victim of high school bullying by old friends. Arata is a member of the ruling tribe of the world he inhabits. Suddenly, both Aratas are snatched by some sort of magical force and placed in a state of limbo, where they briefly see each other and hear both worlds calling out for Arata to return. They land in each other’s worlds, and must now deal with the challenges their counterparts faced.
