Naota’s life in Mabase is the epitome of drab. Nothing exciting ever happens there, period. His family is about as immature as one can get and now his brother’s just left to play baseball in America. Just when things couldn’t get any worse, he gets run over by a beautiful, if psychotic, girl who, after a strange exchange of words (and guitar blows) speeds off. In the wake of this strange meeting, Naota then sees his world turned upside-down as robots start spontaneously popping out of his head and wreaking havoc on the town. It seems that the scooter-riding stranger is back and she has answers to what’s happening to Naota. So much for boring days…

Assigned to escort him to the capital is a young Pilot Trainee named Lafiel, serving aboard the patrol ship Gauthloth. When the Gauthloth encounters unidentified craft during the journey, Jinto and Lafiel are evacuated as non-combatants for precautionary reasons, and are forced to find their own way to Lacmhacarh.

Haruhi English Voice Actors Interview, Anime North 2007

Canadian Haruhiists rejoice! Anime North 2007 was the setting for the official Canadian premiere of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and it was a good kick off for a highly anticipated R1 DVD. The various festivities included an early release of the Volume 1 boxset in the Dealer’s Room (3 days before the street date), and a screening. The highlight of the Haruhi events was the Hare Hare Yukai dance competition, where several teams of fans competed for audience approval and the chance to win themed prizes. This culminated in a group dance on stage with all the groups, plus the English voice cast!
