Claus Barca and Lavie Head are two teenagers living in Norkia, part of the Empire of Anatoure. For them, each day is a struggle, but the pair manages to get by as couriers on Claus’ mechanical skill, Lavie’s energy, and their fathers’ vanship. This Ugly and Beautiful World

Takemoto Takeru is a high school student who also makes deliveries for his household via his motorcycle. During one of his deliveries with his friend Ryou, the two spot a mysterious light in the sky and watch as it enters a nearby forest. Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho

Okimura Kaname is a student at Prefectoral Umineko Shougyou High, or ‘Umisho’ for short. When he was growing up, Kaname encountered a mermaid, which in essence terrified him , and forced him to develop hydrophobia- fear of water. Ironically, despite this phobia, Kaname is the manager of the school swim team, which is dominated by a dozen or so girls. To make matters more interesting, we meet the happy-go-lucky girl Ninagawa Amuro. Right off the bat, she is drafted to the swim team for her bizzare talents in the pool, such as her unbelievable swimming speeds and unusual style, including the occasional skinny dipping. The final spice? Amuro reminds Kaname of the mermaid he met years ago. So just who is Amuro, and is she really a mermaid or not?

Kaiji

After graduating high school, Kaiji moves to Tokyo to find work, but is unable. Two years pass, and nothing changes. In these two years, Kaiji begins drinking cheap liquor, gambling, and often playing pranks, such as slashing tires. Everything changes when he is paid a visit by a debt collector named Endo, who informs Kaiji that he owes money on a loan he cosigned with a coworker who was down on his luck. The amount Kaiji owes is too staggering to pay, and he is offered a choice by Endo. He can either spend the next ten to fifteen years paying back the debt, or board a gambling ship named Espoir (the French for “hope”) and gamble for one night with loaned money to attempt to repay his debt, and maybe even turn a small profit. However, if he fails to win the gamble he will be forced into the most brutal of manual labor for two years to pay the money back. Unbeknownst to Kaiji, he is being set up by Endo to enter and fail. Can Kaiji overcome the gamble aboard the Espoir or has Endo just sealed his fate?

Kanon

His parents having been reassigned to a foreign country, Aizawa Yuuichi has been forced to move in with his cousin Minase Nayuki and her mother Akiko. It’s not Yuuichi’s first visit to Nayuki’s snowy town though, as he experienced a similar situation seven years prior. However, Yuuichi cannot recall any specific memories of his time with the Minases seven years ago, a condition that is constantly on Nayuki’s mind.
