New York Anime Festival. Or, New York Comic-Con (NYCC), depending on who you talk to. For the second year in a row, the two were the same convention. After New York Anime Festival had had three years to cement itself as the New York anime con, Reed Pop brought back NYCC from its hiatus in 2010 and combined the two conventions into one mega event, to varying results.

MechaCon has just completed its seventh year in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Hilton Riverside, and I must say Convention Organizer, Jon Russo’s words about this year being Lucky Number Seven were totally spot on. In my six years of attending this convention, I have got to say this was probably the most fun I have ever had at any con in recent memory. However, as I say this, let me also preface this with this is the first convention I’ve attended where I have stayed at the convention hotel.

The first anime convention/event that I ever attended was here, and now that original event was elsewhere. But I was back and this time it was a new beginning.

Sakura Con 2011 was quite the experience. It takes place in Seattle, WA, and is the largest anime con in the Northwest. With a massive crowd in the tens of thousands, it pulls out all the stops, almost being overwhelming at times. However, that leaves you with plenty to do and plan for, and it is definitely worth it.
